Past container cranes
In the eighties, a consortium of major shipping lines decided to contract for development, design and construction of three twin-lift cranes for their new terminal in Botan Bay, Sydney, Australia.
It was the first exercise of its kind, as everything brand new, it brought a whole range of complications that made the realisation to last 9 years, this including a long list of ‘omissions and defects’ to be completed after take over.
For various reasons, the task to design and execute – under very tight operations conditions – there items fell on my shoulders, as enclosed references of both the employer and the client demonstrate. The result was a wide collection of technical and managerial experience towards activities pursued ever since.
New cranes – COFASTRANS
COFASTRANS is a novel STS crane and indented berth system that improves efficiency, safety and sustainability of container handling operations in ports.
The STS crane is a key element of COFASTRANS. The crane is a continuation of efforts on the second generation Goliath cranes, which were based on 26 years’ experience on the first generation. This was then followed by another 12 years’ experience on past STS cranes and grab unloaders.
