Steel structures
My experience of steel structures includes large ones, like designing a 1000MW power station in Queensland, Australia, to medium-sized exercises such as how to change a span of a fully-erected STS container crane by 50mm, over to reel details that must exist in the hundreds.
It is to cover these small items that prompted me to choose the references detailing the work on the cooler-elevator. By this choice I wanted to demonstrate that size has nothing to do with degree of difficulty of the task (20,000 cycles per day). In fact, this redesign I still remember among the most difficult I ever dealt with.
Grab unloaders
In response to an invitation by a major steelmaking group in Southern France, A team of Cegeler (F) and Vitkovice (CZ), under my technical leadership, completed development of two 52T grab unloaders.
As development efforts continued even after completion of the task, the design hides an innovative, patentable idea significantly improving environmental control, with other advantages to follow.
